Set on the banks of the Dajia River, Guguan Hot Spring is known for its therapeutic properties. The water sits at a balmy 48 degrees Celsius and is rich in minerals and carbonic acid, with a soak in the springs leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth. Locals believe bathing in the hot springs helps mothers give birth to baby boys.
Forested Bashan Mountain rises above the hot spring and adds to the picturesque setting. Spring is a beautiful time to visit, with the pastel pink cherry blossom trees in full bloom. Visit in autumn to admire the bright red, yellow and orange leaves of the maple trees.
The 1.5-kilometre-long Shaolai Walking Trail winds through the forest and up to a scenic lookout. You’ll start by crossing the Shaolai Suspension Bridge, which spans across the Dajia River and treats you to beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Head back to the hot springs after your hike to soak your feet in the mineral-rich water.
