Things to do in Taitung City
Aboriginal culture comes alive at the Museum of Prehistory in Taitung, where you can view excavated pottery and stone coffins from the Peinan culture. Stroll the sculptured gardens near the original prehistoric archaeological site known as Beinan Cultural Park.
The old railway station in town plays host to Taitung Railway Art Village, which features rainbow-coloured paper lanterns and the works of local artisans. Pick up handicraft souvenirs and check the schedule for live aboriginal music shows. Visit Ata Aboriginal Culture Craft to watch handmade glass bead creation and to buy textiles, bead art and leather goods.
Dive into the world of medicinal herbs and biotechnology at Yuan Sen Applied Botanical Garden, where you can learn about ancient healing arts. Have a meal at the on-site café specialising in hot-pot dishes from the gardens combined with fresh seafood and noodles. You can even create your own combinations and dipping sauces.

Getting around Taitung City
City buses offer transportation around the city, while the East Coast Scenic Area shuttle covers surrounding areas. Taxis, scooters and bicycle rentals are available. You can rent a car at Taitung Airport, about eight kilometres from the city centre.
