Sharing its boundary with the Taichung International Airport, Daya District is a suburban area in the north of Taichung. Leafy parks dot its compact landscape, which also holds revered temples and halls, pottery houses and cultural museums.
Things to do in Daya District
Art lovers shouldn’t miss a visit to Tung Hai Arts Street that lies just to the south of Daya District, with one-of-a-kind boutiques, galleries and pottery museums to discover. Grab a coffee within creative surrounds in one of the unique cafes or shop for local designer clothes in the fashion stores.
If you want to capture great photos of Taichung, head to Maple Garden whose green oasis is surrounded by towering skyscrapers. It’s particularly impressive at night when the buildings are illuminated and reflect in the central pond, while children will enjoy spotting turtles, fish and ducks during the day.
Plan a day trip north from Daya District to visit the Dajia Jenn Lann Temple, dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu. It dates to the 18th century and features elaborate Buddhist architecture that draws thousands of pilgrims throughout the year.
Combine a visit to Dajia Jenn Lann Temple with a stop at the colourful Zhong She Guanguang Flower Market. Overwater boardwalks, Dutch-inspired windmills and quirky sculptures dot the flower gardens, and you can sample fresh honey made by the bees that pollinate the flowers at the Bai Hua Mi store.
Getting around Daya District
