Established as a rural township in 1945, Renwu District forms part of Kaohsiung City’s suburban sprawl. It’s home to protected wetlands, recreational parks and one of the area’s top golf driving ranges, as well as a laneway that brings children’s cartoons to life.
Things to do in Renwu District
In the heart of Renwu District is Baguaxiuxian Park, which encompasses several ponds, a children’s playground and an outdoor amphitheatre where live shows are held. Stretch your legs on one of the tree-lined walking trails before grabbing a bite to eat at the Bagua Night Market. This historic market is clustered with stalls selling authentic Taiwanese snacks, such as stinky tofu and barbecued meats.
Golfers can practise their swing at the Renwucheng Guanyuan Golf Club’s driving range, which is one of the biggest of its kind in Kaohsiung City. It features automatic golf ball feeding machines and a well-stocked store where you can shop for golf clubs, apparel and accessories. After your practice session, you can dine at the on-site seafood restaurant or rejuvenate with a treatment at the adjacent massage parlour.
If you’re a fan of street art, head to Hou'an Painted Lane, which is decorated with colourful murals depicting famous children’s cartoons. In addition to the impressively painted octopus, sea turtle and shark, keep an eye out for the winged horse and ferocious dinosaurs. Hello Kitty and Kung Fu Panda are also represented in the laneway.
