Things to do in Sanmin District
Parks and outdoor spaces are central to life in Sanmin District, including Jhongdou Wetlands Park, an ecological corridor along Love River hosting dozens of bird species. Float your way through Jinshi Butterfly Park on the eastern edge of Jinshi Lake Scenic Park for deep immersion into butterfly life with streams, small bridges and meandering trails.
Pass the towering memorial arch at the edge of Jinshi Lake Scenic Park to view Kaohsiung Fudingjin Baoan Temple with its golden statue of Neza and elaborately carved dragon relief. Sanfong Temple, built in 1672, features art by master painter Pan Lu-Shui. Linger in the temple square for enthralling folklore dance performances.
Want to sample local cuisine? Stroll from Sanfong Temple to Sanfong Central Street to taste your way through Sanmin District’s exquisite food. Thriving for centuries, the now-modernised lane runs for 400 metres and brims with everything from dry goods to seafood, tea leaves, Chinese herbs and sweets.
The National Science and Technology Museum is home to artefacts and installation art promoting applied technology. Take a deep-dive into the culture of the Taiwanese Hakka ethnic group at the Kaohsiung Hakka Cultural Museum. Head down to the Love River in the evening to experience the landmark Kaohsiung Tower of Light.
Getting around Sanmin District
Kaohsiung MRT metro trains traverse the city, including stops in Sanmin District, with buses connecting various stations. Many visitors rent scooters or bicycles for navigating crowded city streets. Taxis are also available if you prefer a more straight-forward approach.
