Liuhe Night Market is a thriving commercial hotspot situated in the heart of Kaohsiung, Sinsing District, Taiwan. The area extends from Zhongshan Road to Zili Road. It is one of the most famous markets in the country and a popular international tourist attraction renowned for its local cuisine flavours and entertainment.
The highlight of the Liuhe Night Market is the fresh seafood, specifically hundreds of stalls brimming with steamed shrimp, crab and octopus, some of them offering a restaurant setting. Vendors line both sides of the street selling clothing, accessories, handicrafts and even live animals. Some of the most prominent offerings include local papaya milk and beef steak, also found within a variety of area steakhouses.
Public transportation to the area is serviced by the Kaohsiung MRT and the nearby Formosa Boulevard Station which is within walking distance of the market. Buses route to the closest Yuanhuan stop from which the location can be accessed along Zhongshan Road. Walking is the most efficient way of getting around.
The Liuhe Night Market was birthed out of the original establishment of the Dagangpu Night Market dating back to 1950. It is now a large-scale, pedestrian-centric area, reorganised by the government to suit the growing area tourism industry.
