Hugging the east bank of the Love River, Cianjin District is one of the smallest districts in Kaohsiung City. It encompasses 20 different villages, the sprawling green space of Central Park and several cultural institutions, as well as a historic baseball stadium where games are held.
Things to do in Cianjin District
Occupying the south-east corner of Cianjin District is Central Park, which was originally set aside as a green space when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. Framed by towering skyscrapers, it’s an oasis in Kaohsiung City, with water features, a hedgerow labyrinth and picnic lawns. Don’t miss the interactive art installation known as “Urban Spotlight” with its corridor of lights.
Taiwan’s history of work is explored at the Kaohsiung Museum of Labor, which lies near the banks of the Love River. You can learn about the textile industry in Kaohsiung and the formation of labour unions, as well as the lives of Taiwan’s immigrant workers. The Kaohsiung Museum of Labor also features exhibits dedicated to Kaohsiung’s current animation, comic and video gaming industries.
Baseball fans can coincide their visit with a home game of the Lamigo Monkeys at Kaohsiung Li De Baseball Stadium. Built under Japanese rule, this historic sporting facility features an undulating roof and is fronted by a life-size sculpture depicting a batter in action. The Kaohsiung Li De Baseball Stadium looks out across the Love River towards the Imperial Crown-style building of the Kaohsiung Museum of History.
