The vibrant neighbourhood of Boon Lay is the centrepiece of Jurong West, occupying a prime position near a major shopping centre and riverfront park. Along with inviting restaurants and cafes, Boon Lay boasts convenient access to some of Singapore’s best natural attractions.
Things to do in Boon Lay
On one side of Boon Lay is the towering Jurong Point Shopping Mall, one of the largest in Singapore with about 450 retail and dining outlets. Browse through international and local stores, such as Adidas, Beauty Language, Cotton On and Everlast, before indulging in American-style burgers at Carl’s Junior or delicious seafood at Fish & Co.
Opposite the shopping centre is Jurong Central Park, an eight-hectare expanse of grassy picnic areas, walking and bicycling trails and various play equipment nestled on the Jurong River. There are numerous ponds scattered throughout the park, which are home to unique birds and dragonflies.
Are you visiting with the kids? Head to SAFRA Jurong, a recreation centre featuring a swimming pool, tennis courts, day spa, karaoke area and state-of-the-art gym. Kidz Amaze is the on-site children’s playground, which boasts immersive obstacle courses and a ball pit. If you’re feeling peckish, duck into the on-site Bola Café, which serves light snacks and gourmet coffee.
Boon Lay is under 10 minutes’ drive from Jurong Lake, which is home to The Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum. Here you can get up close to various species of turtles and tortoises during feeding and petting opportunities. Wander over to the nearby Japanese Garden to witness traditional Japanese architecture, quaint bridges and exotic plants.
