Located between Jeddah’s city centre and King Abdulaziz International Airport, Al Rabwah is a residential suburb in what is affectionately known as the “Mermaid of the Red Sea”. It’s a convenient base for discovering the cultural exhibits of Al Tayebat International City and shopping at the Heraa International Mall and is on the doorstep of a family-friendly water park.
Things to do in Ar Rabwah
For a retail fix, head to Heraa International Mall, which is one of the largest shopping complexes in Jeddah. It’s home to international fashion retailers such as Zara, Victoria’s Secret and American Eagle Outfitters, as well as globally-inspired eateries and local cafes. Kids will love the play areas and arcade games, as well as the 9D VR motion cinema simulator.
Families shouldn’t miss a visit to the Water Village, which is packed with swimming pools, water slides and play equipment. Once you’ve built up an appetite, you can feast on sandwiches and pizzas at the on-site eatery or grab a freshly squeezed juice. Adjacent to the Water Village is Engineering Square, a prominent roundabout with a sculpture depicting a protractor, compass and ruler.
Al Rabwah is an ideal base for exploring Al Tayebat International City, a museum complex that highlights Jeddah’s traditional Hijazi architecture. Admire the coral buildings decorated with elaborate wooden latticework and learn about Jeddah’s development as one of the oldest ports on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. Al Tayebat International City also features exhibits dedicated to the country’s nomadic Bedouins and the Holy City of Mecca.
