About Taif

The peaceful city of Taif is known for its beautiful 20th-century Shubra Palace and being the seasonal home of Saudi Arabia’s royalty. Thanks to its pleasant climate and fertile green slopes, Taif is also famous for its cultivation of grape, figs and honey.

Things to do in Taif

Home to a rich history, Taif Regional Museum sits inside Shubra Palace and was occupied by the Turks until 1916. The former residence of King Abdul Aziz is now home to an array of artefacts, from Islamic and pre-Islamic periods, along with displays that teach you about Taif’s history.

Fancy a spot of shopping? Ozak Souk is the oldest souk in the region and is a thriving marketplace full of local vendors selling souvenirs, spices and jewellery. Wander amidst the artisan craftsmen as they set up their stalls for the day.

Al Rudaf Park is an open green area with granite rock features, a public lake and basketball courts. Head to the park in the early afternoon to enjoy a picnic on the grass and watch the locals playing sports.

Just under one hour’s drive north of Taif sits the village of Al Shafa. Here, high in the Sarawat mountains, is where the locals grow their fresh fruit crops. Once at the top, walk amidst the fruit gardens or embark on a camel ride to enjoy the expansive views of the surrounding mountains.
