Things to do in Al Safa
Shop a huge selection of local and international brands at Al Yasmin Mall. Modern and air-conditioned, the mall is a great place to escape the heat of the day. The food court will tempt you with fast-food restaurants and authentic local cuisine. There’s also an indoor amusement centre with miniature rides, games and other family attractions.
Cool off and make a splash at Water Village, a family-friendly aquapark with pools, slides and fountains. Spend the day by the poolside, then head to the restaurant for a sumptuous buffet dinner.
Venture into the city centre to visit iconic landmarks like Al Shafee Mosque. Built in the 16th century, the Ottoman-style mosque is topped with a soaring minaret and welcomes you with beautiful carved wooden doors. Al Rahma Mosque is smaller but just as beautiful, with colourful mosaics and stunning views over the Red Sea.
Shop for treasures at Souq Al Alawi, one of the largest in Saudi Arabia. It stretches along Al Dahab Street and is lined with shops selling Arabian silks, jewellery, art and spices. Have fun bargaining with merchants and stocking up on unique souvenirs.
Step back in time in the Al-Balad historic district, where you’ll find centuries-old houses built from Red Sea coral. Don’t miss the Matbouli House Museum, which occupies a handsome three-storey building and is filled with traditional antiques.
