Things to do in Thirroul
Thirroul’s principal attraction is its gorgeous white-sand beaches. Thirroul beach is close to several cafes and restaurants and is backed by a children’s play area, while Austinmer Beach is lined with shops and has two large rock pools to explore. Scarborough beach is best for surfing and swimming and has lovely views of the coastline from the picnic area.
Get out into the wild on the Sublime Point walking track, a demanding trek through lush rainforest that culminates in magnificent views from the plateau above the forest. For a gentler walk, amble around the Illawarra Escarpment and look out for raptors and black cockatoos or fire up the barbecue at one of the dedicated picnic spots.
Thirroul hosts a number of arts festivals throughout the year, including the Seaside and Arts Festival and Scarborough Art Show. Check out the vintage clothing and retro designs for sale at Coledale Market on Sundays. In the evenings, Anita’s Theatre is Thirroul’s premier live music venue, housed in a restored theatre built in 1925.
