A residential suburb sprawling around Sydney Airport, Mascot sits on the edge of Botany Bay and offers convenient transport links to the city centre. It’s home to plenty of dining establishments and recreational facilities, including several golf clubs, all just a short drive from the Pacific Ocean beaches of Maroubra.
Things to do in Mascot
At the heart of Mascot is the Mascot Memorial Park, which features beautifully manicured gardens and leafy walking trails commemorating those who lost their lives during World War II. Also nearby is L’Estrange Park, a recreational complex that boasts a range of sporting fields, courts and a children’s playground where young travellers can let off some steam.
Kids will also love Ice Zoo, an ice skating facility that hosts learn-to-skate classes, public skating sessions and ice hockey matches. There’s a licensed cafe where parents can relax with a hot drink, as well as a SkatePLUS store selling a variety of ice skating apparel and equipment.
In addition to being a major international transport hub, Sydney Airport is a destination in itself, with celebrity chef-owned restaurants and high-end designer stores among its tenants. To watch the planes coming and going, head to The Beach, a popular local plane spotting destination that’s located where the runways stretch into Botany Bay.
