The headquarters of the Government of the United Kingdom, 10 Downing Street is one of the most famous addresses in London. Since 1735, its 100 beautifully furnished rooms have also served as the official residence and office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Marvel at the iconic black door of 10 Downing Street, which can be seen through the security gates of Whitehall and was originally made from Georgian oak. It was replaced with a blast-proof material in 1991 and features a black iron knocker in the shape of a lion’s head, as well as a brass letterbox inscribed with the words “First Lord of the Treasury”.
If you’re patient, you may catch a glimpse of “Larry”, 10 Downing Street’s resident cat who holds the official title of “Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office”. You can get an elevated view of 10 Downing Street on one of London’s double-decker bus tours or from the gondolas of the famous London Eye.
