Home to Windsor Castle, the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen, Windsor showcases royalty and British culture. From the River Thames to Royal Park and its cobbled streets dotted with historic buildings, Windsor cradles the heart of England.
Things to do in Windsor
Built by William The Conqueror in the 11th century, Windsor Castle is filled with heritage artefacts, elegant furnishings and paintings from the royal art collection. You can tour the State Apartments and St George’s Chapel and watch the Changing of the Guard. For a rare glimpse of the royal family, time your visit for Easter Court in the spring or the Royal Ascot races in June.
Spend an afternoon at Windsor Great Park, a former hunting estate with ancient oak trees and manicured gardens. You can walk the estate or explore the park by bicycle or horseback. Tally Ho Stables sets you up with gear and horses, or you can opt for a guided tour by carriage.
Visit the Natural History Museum at Eton College to see an authentic page from Charles Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species”. You can hop on river cruises at Datchet Green. If you’re travelling with little ones, visit LEGOLAND Windsor for 55 interactive attractions, including rides, shows and LEGO models.
The horse races at Ascot have been some of the most coveted events in England since 1711. After attending a race, have drinks at The Boatman or take a tasting tour at Windsor and Eton Brewery.
