Stroll around Royal Victoria Dock and discover the city’s industrial heritage. It’s part of the revamped Docklands district and a hub for art, culture and entertainment in East London. Trendy cafes, bars and restaurants line the waterfront and have mastered the art of industrial chic.
The now-defunct Thames Iron Works towers over Canning Town. It was built to manufacture shipbuilding materials in the 1800s and helped launch iconic, British-made warships like HMS Warrior and HMS Thunderer. You’ll pass the ironworks building on your way to Trinity Buoy Wharf, a vibrant arts and cultural complex set on the River Thames.
The Canning Town docking industry once attracted workers from around the world and helped build a diverse, multicultural community. Getting around Canning Town
Canning Town is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Access the neighbourhood using local buses or via Canning Town station on the Jubilee Line of the London Underground. Canning Town is in East London, a 40-minute drive from Central London and 25 minutes by train. A cable car spans across the River Thames and connects Royal Victoria Dock with the Greenwich Peninsula. Heathrow Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away.
