Encompassing gorgeous beaches, lively resort towns and rugged mountains, the Turkish Riviera is one of the country’s most alluring destinations. Also known as the Turquoise Coast, it extends for more than 1,000 kilometres through Antalya and Muğla provinces, taking in both Aegean and Mediterranean waters.
Spend an afternoon exploring the atmospheric ruins of Ephesus and the legendary Temple of Artemis or visit the ancient Lycian settlement of Perga. In Aspendos, you’ll find one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world, while Kusadasi is home to a 14th-century castle built by the Ottomans.
The Turkish Riviera’s natural attractions range from the aptly-named Butterfly Valley to Oludeniz’s Blue Lagoon, with its azure waters ideal for swimming and kayaking. In charming Kaş, you’ll find cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed houses and independent boutiques covered in flowering bougainvillea.
Getting there
Antalya Airport is the main aviation gateway to the Turkish Riviera and has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Buses connect to towns and villages throughout the area, although renting a car will give you greater freedom to explore. Traditional gulet cruises are one of the most popular ways to experience the Turkish Riviera.
