Believed to have been founded by Oghuz Turks in the 15th century, Avsallar is a popular resort town overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It was originally located slightly north of its present site and was moved following a fire in 1843, with citrus trees being planted in its picturesque surroundings.
Things to do in Avsallar
On the northern edge of Avsallar is İncekum Nature Park, which hugs a rugged stretch of Mediterranean coastline. You can stretch your legs on one of the walking trails that lead through its forest of oleander, acacia and sandalwood trees or enjoy a refreshing dip at the sandy beaches. One of the most popular is Wome Beach, which has separate bathing areas for men and women.
On the other side of town is the beach of Avsallar Halk Plajı, which is backed by bars where you can rent umbrellas and sun loungers. Relax on the golden sands or swim in the crystal clear waters before grabbing a bite to eat at the Orion Beach Club. The beach is particularly beautiful in the early evening when the sun sets over the Mediterranean Sea.
A short drive south of Avsallar is the Sealanya Dolphinpark Seapark, a family-friendly water park where you can swim and snorkel with marine life from around the globe. In addition to the park’s pools, artificial reefs and underwater statues, it hosts daily dolphin and seal shows that highlight the unique talents of these creatures.
