Sightsee in Šibenik. Located where the Krka River meets the Adriatic Sea, Šibenik is a historic city that is unique in Dalmatia for being founded by the Croats. Learn about the city’s origins and development at the Šibenik City Museum and marvel at the sculpted faces that adorn the 15th-century Cathedral of St. James. Sweeping views across Šibenik Bay are on offer from St. Michael’s Fortress.
Explore Krka National Park. One of the jewels in Šibenik-Knin County’s crown is Krka National Park, which was created to protect the flora, fauna and landscapes of the Krka River. Photograph the high waterfalls that tumble into the natural pool of Skradinski Buk and stretch your legs on the hiking trail that winds around the cascades of Roški Slap. Also within the park is the island monastery of Visovac and the 14th-century Krka Monastery.
Island hop through Kornati National Park. Encompassing more than 80 islands, this spectacular national park is a popular destination for scuba divers, hikers and yachties. Join a guided boat tour to admire the park’s centuries-old dry walls and the Byzantine remains of Fort Tureta, with plenty of time to swim and snorkel along the way. Hiking trails lead up several of the islands’ hills, from where you can enjoy elevated views across the archipelago.
Getting around Sibensko-Kninska
Šibenik is around a one-hour drive from both Split Airport and Zadar Airport, both of which have flights to destinations across Europe. Regular trains connect from Zagreb to the Šibenik railway station and long-distance buses travel to towns and cities across Šibenik-Knin County. Having your own vehicle will give you greater freedom to explore the county’s natural attractions.
