Things to do in Licko-Senjska
With its laid-back coastal towns and stunning national parks, Lika-Senj County shouldn’t be overlooked.
Sightsee in Senj. Nestled in the foothills of the Velebit Mountains, Senj is a charming coastal town founded more than 3,000 years ago. Delve into the local history at the Senj Town Museum, which occupies a former palace of the Vukasović family, and admire the beautiful Church of St. Mary Magdalene. Dominating a hill overlooking Senj is the 16th-century Nehaj Fortress, which hosts an annual medieval festival.
Hike through Northern Velebit National Park. Encompassing part of Croatia’s largest mountain range, Northern Velebit National Park is traversed by a network of mountaineering trails that include the famous Premužić's Trail. Discover the park’s UNESCO-listed beech forests and explore the remains of shepherd lodges and houses as you ascend to the 1,676-metre-high Zavižan. Along the way, you can savour sweeping views of the Croatian islands that dot the Adriatic Sea.
Explore the Plitvice Lakes. Comprising 16 lakes and more than 90 waterfalls, Plitvice Lakes is one of the oldest national parks in Croatia and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Soak up the majestic views during a boat ride around Kozjak Lake and follow the walking trails that ring the Upper and Lower Lakes. If time allows, escape the crowds along one of the hikes radiating from the lakes. For elevated views across the park, don’t miss the spectacular Vidikovac Lookout.
