Located on Mykonos, Platys Gialos is a picturesque beach with golden sand and turquoise waters, just four kilometres from the city centre. Nestled on the south side of the island, it is the most popular beach in the summer, particularly with families with kids.
One of the biggest beaches on Mykonos, Platys Gialos is appealing to locals and visitors alike for its idyllic stretch of sand and stunning views. Lined with luxury hotels, restaurants and bars, this half-moon shaped bay has plenty to offer for a day trip. Sun-seekers looking for a day of lounging in the island’s pleasant weather will find this beach ideal, as visitors will find a variety of sunbeds and umbrellas to utilise. There are plenty of water sports facilities for those that prefer to get out in the water, including jet skiing and waterskiing. Waterfront restaurants and bars offer an ideal way to end the day, with many establishments offering loungers and tables right on the beach.
Buses connect to Platys Gialos from Mykonos Town regularly throughout the day, taking less than 10 minutes, while taxis are also readily available. Travellers who want to venture to Paradise, Super Paradise or Paranga Beach will find boats that connect throughout the day, in addition to other southern beaches along the coast.
In what used to be a swamp area, Platys Gialos is one of the oldest beaches on Mykonos. The main calling point for small boats that take visitors to other beaches and major points on the island, Platys Gialos is a primary access point on the island. The boats taking day trips to the neighbouring island, Delos, also leave from this beach.
