Things to do in Kefalos
White pebble sand and turquoise water make Agios Stefanos Beach one of the best on Kos. The beach is a stone’s throw from Kefalos and dotted with sun loungers and umbrellas. Relax in the sunshine, swim in the crystalline water and enjoy postcard-perfect views over Kastri Island.
Rugged cliffs and honey-coloured sand fringe Paradise Beach. Set on the southern tip of the Kefalos Peninsula, this 12-kilometre-long stretch of sand is actually a series of smaller beaches. Some are family-friendly, and others feel uncrowded and off the beaten track. Head to clothing-optional Exotic Beach to banish your tan lines.
The beautifully restored Mylotopi Windmill watches over Kefalos. Owned and operated by a local family, the working Dodecanese windmill commands sweeping views over Kefalos Bay. Learn about the wheat grinding process and the special role played by hardworking donkeys. Sample bread baked in the 100-year-old stone oven and tour a traditional Greek house furnished with 19th-century antiques. The on-site restaurant serves delicious food in a rustic setting.
The earliest mentions of Kefalos Castle date back to the 1200s. Perched on a rocky outcrop with cinematic vistas, the Byzantine-era stronghold recalls the island’s ancient past. Watch your step as the ruined castle was damaged beyond repair after an earthquake in the 15th century.
