Thanks to its impressive views over the Aegean Sea, the small village of Imerovigli has been named the “balcony of Santorini” and is one of the island’s best sunset spots. Imerovigli is also home to traditional hillside cave settlements, Cycladic architecture and charming whitewashed buildings with blue-tiled roofs.
Things to do in Imerovigli
In the centre of the village sits the Church of Ai-Stratis, a revered place of worship with impressive views of the Sea of Crete. Afterwards, head to the AVation Spa for a relaxing treatment, before heading up to 363 Champagne Lounge to combine sea views with exquisite champagne.
Fancy a day at sea? Santorini Sailing Centre provides sailing trips around the island. Depart from Ammoudi bay on a catamaran cruise and spend the day jumping in the water, cooling off and enjoying a fresh seafood barbecue on board.
Imerovigli is home to the remains of Skaros Rock, a rocky headland that protrudes out to the azure Aegean Sea and part of a former Venetian castle. This iconic landmark was once used to defend the island and is where history buffs can enjoy a morning exploring the castle's ruins.
Getting there
Santorini (Thira) National Airport is just a 20-minute drive south of the village, with taxis and the KTEL bus service travelling to the city centre. When on the island, you can make use of the ferries, explore on foot or catch a local bus.
