On the banks of the Murray River in the fertile Riverina region, Moama is a historic country town with an almost identical neighbour, Echuca. It features open-air museums and wildlife parks, as well as recreational activities both on and off the water.
Things to do in Moama
Discover the region’s rich history at the Port of Echuca, which was Australia’s largest inland port during the 19th century. It boasts the most extensive collection of paddle steamers in the world, with admission including a one-hour cruise on one of their beautifully restored vessels.
Visit the National Holden Motor Museum, built to honour this much-loved Australian vehicle. There are over 40 Holden vehicles on display, together with rare prototypes, historic photographs and film footage preserving their legacy.
Fancy a round of golf? Head to the Rich River Golf Club, a world-class 36-hole facility on the banks of the Murray River. It’s designed as two separate golf courses, the West and the East, with tree-lined fairways and elevated greens.
A short drive from Moama takes you to Kyabram Fauna Park, home to the largest collection of Australian fauna in Victoria. Wander through the energy-efficient Reptile House, spot species from their Wetland Observation Tower and get up close to koalas, wombats, kangaroos and Tasmanian devils.
Getting around Moama
Moama is located just under three hours’ drive from Melbourne and connected by both train and bus services. The town is small enough to explore on foot and is a short drive or cycle across the bridge to Echuca.
