Things to do in Griffith
Hop between the cellar doors surrounding Griffith, home to De Bortoli Wines, McWilliam’s Hanwood Estate and Calabria Wines. The region is also has small boutique wineries and restaurants where you can pair Griffith’s famous botrytis semillon with locally-sourced produce.
Stop in at some of the local providores, including Riverina Grove, which creates delicious sauces, relishes and olive tapenades. Feast on Italian-inspired baked goods at Bertoldo’s Pasticceria or the salamis and prosciuttos lovingly created by Codemo Smallgoods.
Visit the beautiful Cocoparra National Park, which lies north-east of Griffith. Follow one of the many walking trails to take in the scenic views of the waterfalls and catch a glimpse of nesting peregrine falcons.
Art enthusiasts should visit the Griffith Regional Art Gallery, located in a beautiful Art Deco war memorial building. There’s a fine collection of Australian art and jewellery on display, together with a diverse range of touring exhibitions throughout the year.
Getting there
Griffith Airport, the main gateway to town, is five minutes’ drive from the city centre. Griffith is also just over four hours’ drive west of Canberra. Having your own vehicle is best for exploring the surrounding wineries and national parks.
