Fringed by a pebbly beach, Ixia is a laid-back resort town on the north coast of Rhodes, just west of the Old Town. It’s traversed by a breezy promenade and is home to an abundance of globally-inspired restaurants serving everything from Greek to Italian and Korean cuisine.
Rent a beach umbrella and sun lounger for a day at Ixia Beach, which is backed by traditional tavernas and restaurants where you can dine throughout the day. If you’re feeling more active, you can learn to windsurf with the team at Windsurfers World or take advantage of their jet ski rentals.
Ixia makes a convenient base for exploring Rhodes’ UNESCO World Heritage-listed medieval Old Town, which is ringed by Byzantine stone walls. Marvel at the Palace of the Grand Masters built by the Knights Hospitaller and visit the Archaeological Museum, where you’ll find marble statues, funerary stele and ancient mosaics.
Getting there
Ixia is around 10 minutes’ drive from Rhodes Town and 15 minutes from Rhodes International Airport Diagoras, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe and the Middle East. Regular buses connect to Ixia and the beach resort can easily be explored on foot.
