Things to do in Guishan District
Just 15 minutes east of central Guishan Township sits Xinzhuang Night Market. In the evening the market comes alive with local vendors cooking traditional dishes, such as braised pork rice, beef noodles and oyster omelettes. The market is also home to multiple artisan craft, clothing and souvenir stalls.
Hutoushan Environmental Park is a picturesque grassy area 20 minutes west of Guishan Township. Spend the morning walking along the trails amidst cherry trees, before making your ascent to the Buddhist temple atop the hill.
For a real taste of Taiwan’s religious roots, head to Longshan Temple, an active place of worship with impressive 18th-century architecture. Admire the dragon statues, colourful tiles and bronze pillars that make up the picturesque temple.
Just 50 minutes west of the township is Window on China Theme Park, an outdoor, family-oriented amusement park featuring water slides and rides. Enjoy globetrotting around the miniature model country displays, making a splash at the waterpark and riding the mini-train across the park.
Getting there
Guishan Township is serviced by two main airports. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport sits 30 minutes north, while Taipei Songshan Airport sits 30 minutes west. Make use of the Taipei metro, public buses and taxis to explore the area.
