Things to do in Guiren District
Learn about how suitcases and backpacks are made at the Wan Guo Road Creative Tourism Factory. The museum occupies a former suitcase-making factory and features family-friendly exhibits on how the products are made. Visit the gift shop on your way out to stock up on high-quality Taiwanese luggage.
Guiren Renshou Temple is dedicated to Emperor Baosheng, the Taoist God of Medicine. Walk around the temple complex and admire the brightly-painted dragon figurines and intricate wood carvings. Outside the temple are stalls selling tasty Taiwanese snacks like oyster omelettes, shrimp dumplings and pork intestine noodles. For dessert, enjoy a handful of sticky taro balls.
You can get lost in a rainbow of blooms at the Qijia Flower Market. The district is packed with stalls selling everything from pastel-coloured pansies to miniature cacti and succulents. You’ll see lots of native flowers from Taiwan, as well as imported varieties.
Ride the train into Tainan City and spend the day visiting some of the country’s most famous attractions. Walk in the footsteps of a Ming dynasty king at the magnificent Grand Mazu Temple and learn about local culture and traditions at the National Museum of Taiwan History. Hayashi Department Store occupies a beautiful Art Deco building and is a great place to shop for souvenirs.
Getting around Guiren District
Parts of Guiren District can be explored on foot, while taxis are a good way to cover longer distances or you can ride local buses. Tainan City is 45 minutes away by car or train. Tainan Airport is a 20-minute drive away.
