Things to do in Nanxi District
Scenic trails wind through the Mei Ling Scenic Area. Venture into the mountains or enjoy a leisurely stroll through plum orchards. Visit in April and May to see the park come alive with twinkling fireflies. The family-friendly Wulong Trail is one of the best places to see the enchanting insects. To see the park covered with pastel-pink flowers, visit in plum blossom season from December to January.
Challenge yourself on the Meifeng Historic Trail. Thousands of plum, mountain cherry and purple glory trees line the trail. Continue on to Falcon Point, a rocky outcrop with sweeping views over the surrounding mountains and forests.
Relieve tired muscles with a soak in the Gueidan Hot Spring. High concentrations of alkaline carbonic acid give the water incredible moisturising properties. The minerals actively soften keratin in your skin for an amazingly soft and smooth complexion. Lush plants surround the open-air hot spring and add to the serene setting. Visit after dark for incredible stargazing.
Nansi District farmers grow some of the juiciest and most delicious plums in the world. You’ll see the fruit featured in everything from sweet and sour chicken dishes to decadent desserts. Dried plums, bottled sauces and plum-infused beauty products are sold across the district and make excellent souvenirs.
Getting around Nanxi District
Cars are the best way to visit Nansi District and explore sights and attractions at your own pace. The district is a one-hour drive from Tainan City and Tainan Airport. Local buses run between Nansi District and Tainan City but can take three hours or more.
