Divided into three residential areas, Al Qusais is a sprawling community north of Dubai International Airport. It is one of the oldest districts in Dubai and home to an archaeological site dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. Today, Al Qusais encompasses five industrial areas and several schools targeting both local and international students.
Things to do in Al Qusais
Al Qusais' largest shopping facility is Al Mulla Plaza, which was one of the first malls to be built in Dubai. It is packed with retail stores selling everything from clothing to jewellery and regularly hosts fairs throughout the year. You can browse the fabrics at Dar al Bawady Textiles and shop for perfume at Al Jad Trading before settling in for a Nepalese meal at Vishalakshi Restaurant.
Within Al Mulla Plaza is the Dubai Police Museum, which features three exhibition halls detailing the history and successes of the force. Learn about their anti-drug efforts and the local prison system while viewing the weapons, uniforms and medals on display. Some of the objects date back to 1956 when Dubai’s police force was originally formed.
One of the area’s most popular green spaces is Al Qusais Pond Park, which centres around a picturesque lake. It features a wide jogging track where locals come to exercise, as well as a children’s play area with slides and swings. Dotting the park are plenty of benches where you can watch the world go by, as well as covered seating areas for picnic lunches.
Getting around Al Qusais
Al Qusais is around 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Dubai and 10 minutes from Dubai International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. The Green line of the Dubai Metro stops at several stations throughout Al Qusais and buses also travel through the area.
