An integral part of the elite Sports and Entertainment Precinct in Melbourne’s city centre, AAMI Park is home to the Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Rebels rugby teams as well as the Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory soccer teams. It’s also referred to as “Melbourne Rectangular Stadium” and sits on the easily accessible Edwin Flack Field site.
In addition to regular sporting events, you can attend music concerts by internationally known performers. More than 30,000 available seats accommodate fans for superstars, such as Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift and the Foo Fighters.
A major part of the experience at AAMI Park is its lightweight bio-frame design with a geodesic dome roof. Triangular panels and thousands of LED lights create a dazzling light show, while environmentally efficient features collect rainwater from the roof and allow natural ventilation for low energy use.
Getting there
AAMI Park sits about two kilometres east of Melbourne’s CBD, which can be accessed on a 30-minute walk along the banks of Yarra River. If arriving by train, it’s a 10-minute walk from Richmond Station. The stadium is also a 10-minute walk from Melbourne Cricket Ground and the National Sports Museum.
