Zhongshan District is an eclectic mix of trendy shopping streets, centuries-old temples and world-class cultural attractions. It’s one of the hippest neighbourhoods in Taipei and boasts some of the best cafes, bars and restaurants in the city.
Things to do in Zhongshan District
It’s easy to spend hours exploring the streets of Zhongshan District. The main thoroughfares are lined with upscale boutiques, while the side lanes and alleys beckon with independent shops and cafes. Eslite Spectrum is one of the top shopping malls in Taipei, featuring high-end stores, excellent dining options and ice-cold air conditioning.
Taipei Fine Arts Museum occupies a striking contemporary building and showcases one of the finest collections of art in the country. You can admire works by Taiwanese masters such as Gobara Koto, or take a guided tour and learn more about the collection. The Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei spotlights modern artists and is housed in a colonial-era schoolhouse.
Hsing Tian Kong is dedicated to the Chinese God of War and is one of the most beautiful temples in the city. Approaching the complex, you’ll notice the elaborate roof decorated with brightly-painted carved dragons.
The streets around Zhongshan Station are lined with hip bars and restaurants, as well as neon-lit karaoke spots. On Linsen North Road you’ll find some of the best Japanese-style “izakaya” bars in the city. Head to Zhongshan North Road for upscale boutiques and stylish eateries. There are excellent Western-style cafes in Zhongshan District where you can enjoy espresso and pastries.
Getting around Zhongshan District
Zhongshan District is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Taxis are a fast and affordable way to get from A to B, while the district is served by the Zhongshan MRT on the red and green lines. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is a 40-minute drive away.
