Things to do in Yeppoon
For scenic views of the area, take the Bluff Point Walking Track up to the top of a steep hill and enjoy the various lookouts along the way. Pack a picnic, bring binoculars for close-up views of turtles and dolphins and admire the lush vegetation along the way.
Have you ever wanted to pet a kangaroo or a koala? Visit Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can feed and interact with tons of native species, including kangaroos, koalas, snakes, reptiles and birds. Learn about Australia’s native wildlife while supporting a worthy rescue operation.
If you’re travelling with kids, check out the Keppel Kraken water park located on the beachfront. Cool down in the beautifully constructed water fountains, enjoy plenty of shade in the undercover seating and bring food for an afternoon barbecue. When you’re finished frolicking in the water, head across the street to one of the quaint cafes for a coffee or a bite to eat.
The Singing Ship in nearby Emu Park is one of the area’s most famous sights. This massive white sculpture shaped in the form of a ship has pipes that bellow forth musical notes on a windy day. Stroll the surrounding Anzac Trail, check out the historic war monuments and take photographs of the panoramic views of the Keppel Islands.
Getting around Yeppoon
Yeppoon is about 40 kilometres outside of Rockhampton, where you’ll find Rockhampton Airport. Yeppoon has local bus services and taxis, but it’s easier to drive your own car or walk around the town centre. Ferry services also grant access to the Keppel Islands.
