Things to do in Maroochydore
Sunshine Plaza is the largest shopping mall on the Sunshine Coast and clustered with department stores, fashion boutiques and retail shops. There’s a large food court with both fast food and international selections, as well as a cinema complex showing the latest blockbusters.
Stretch your legs along the coastal walking track that leads from Sunshine Plaza to the Alexandra Headland and reaches as far south as Mooloolaba. There are plenty of benches where you can rest and take in the views, as well as long expanses of beach for swimming.
A great way to experience the region is by cruising along the Maroochy River, with a range of scenic and eco boat tours available. Witness the abundant birdlife of Maroochydore’s coastal ecosystems and embark on a guided rainforest walk to learn about the native flora.
To the north of Maroochydore lies the beautiful beach of Mudjimba, with its offshore island surrounded by coral gardens that make it a favorite snorkeling spot. There are consistent surf breaks along the beach and a lifeguard-patrolled area for swimmers, as well as a children’s playground and picnic facilities.
Getting around Maroochydore
Sunshine Coast Airport is located 10 minutes’ drive north of Maroochydore and one hour from Brisbane International Airport. Having your own car is the most convenient means of getting around and accessing the sights surrounding Maroochydore.
