Boasting an idyllic setting overlooking the Coral Sea, Trinity Beach is a coastal suburb to the north of Cairns. It was originally home to the Djabugay Aboriginal people and is now a popular residential area with recreational parks, shopping facilities and an excellent choice of global dining establishments.
Things to do in Trinity Beach
Spend an afternoon relaxing on the palm-fringed sands of Trinity Beach, which is backed by a leafy esplanade dotted with cafes and restaurants. You can feast on Thai cuisine at Tuk Tuk By The Sea or dine on Italian-inspired cuisine at L'Unico Trattoria. Travelling with kids? They can let off some steam in the waterfront children’s playground or kick back with a picnic in Possum Street Park.
Want to get up close to friendly wallabies? Head to the grassy lawns of Centenary Park in the late afternoon when these endearing native mammals congregate for a feed. The park is a popular recreational and sporting destination, featuring fitness facilities, a bowling club and an AFL field, as well as a sports club serving food and drinks.
Keen mountain bikers shouldn’t miss a visit to Smithfield Regional Park, which is nestled in the foothills of the Atherton Tablelands. Its tropical rainforest gullies and eucalypt woodlands are traversed by a variety of mountain biking trails, including green, blue and black-rated options. Several hiking trails also meander across its clear-flowing streams and offer scenic views towards the waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
Getting there
Trinity Beach is a 30-minute drive from the centre of Cairns and just 20 minutes from Cairns Airport. Regular buses connect Trinity Beach with Cairns and other suburbs in the Northern Beaches area, although having your own vehicle is a more convenient way of getting around.
