Backed by the rugged peaks of the “Engadine Dolomites”, Scuol is a charming town in the Swiss canton of Grisons. It’s a popular holiday destination for wellness seekers due to its bathing complex, while it also serves as a gateway to the ski slopes of Motta Naluns and Minschuns.
Things to do in Scuol
If you’re visiting in the winter months, you can take advantage of the cable cars that ascend to Motta Naluns, which offers perfectly groomed slopes for skiing and snowboarding. Beginner, intermediate and advanced snow enthusiasts can let loose in the snow park or enjoy a ride down the toboggan slope. Also nearby is the family-friendly ski resort of Minschuns in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Val Müstair.
A short drive south-west of Scuol is the Castle of Tarasp, a spectacular hilltop fortification that dates back to the 11th century. It belonged to Austria until 1803 and was restored by Karl August Lingner in the early 20th century. Today, its grand halls, ballrooms and bedrooms are accessible to the public. Coincide your visit with a recital in the chapel to hear its 2,500-pipe organ in action.
Magnificent alpine views are on offer from the Engadin Bad Scuol, an impressive wellness facility featuring both indoor and outdoor pools. Fed by pure mineral waters, they boast massage jets, waterfalls and a swimming channel. In addition to a steam room, the facility also features a sunbathing lawn complete with deck chairs from where you can admire the Engadine Mountains.
