Home to one of Germany’s most famous game and toy manufacturing companies, Ravensburg is a historic city in Upper Swabia. It was first mentioned in the 11th century and became an important trade hub in the Middle Ages, with its pedestrianised Old Town beautifully preserved.
Things to do in Ravensburg
Art enthusiasts shouldn't miss a visit to the Kunstmuseum Ravensburg, which houses a collection of works by the former advertising consultant Peter Selinka. It was designed by the Stuttgart-based architectural firm Lederer + Ragnarsdóttir + Oei as the first certified passive house museum in the world. In addition to German Expressionist paintings, the museum houses works created by the CoBrA and SPUR art groups.
Travelling with kids? They’ll love spending a few hours at the Museum Ravensburger, which boasts interactive exhibits, puzzles and games. Learn about the origins of the Ravensburger brand and how it has gone on to be a leading name in European jigsaw manufacturing. Children and adults alike can get hands-on with some of the company’s most beloved games or pick up a new family favourite in the museum gift store.
A short drive south of the city is Ravensburger Spieleland, an amusement park based around much-loved German games and characters. Get behind the wheel on the GraviTrax Marble Run or hands-on in the Bosch Car Service Workshop World before enjoying a ride on the Animal Carousel. The park also features classic Ravensburger games brought to life, such as “Tempo Kleine Schnecke”.
