Overlooking the northwestern shores of Lake Constance, Radolfzell is a bustling town in Baden-Württemberg. It was established around a monastery in the 9th century, with the Abbey of Reichenau once belonging to the House of Habsburg. Radolfzell is renowned for its annual costume festival and for hosting a water procession pilgrimage from the nearby village of Moos.

For a dose of local history, visit the Stadtmuseum Radolfzell, which occupies a former pharmacy that dates back to 1689. Its beautifully preserved dispensary hosts themed exhibitions about Radolfzell’s past, including artefacts from the medieval period. After your visit, you can stretch your legs on the beachfront promenade that hugs the shores of Lake Constance.
Radolfzell’s most important religious building is the Minster of Our Lady, which dates back to the mid-18th century. It was designed by the Baroque architect Johann Caspar, with its whitewashed interior beautifully decorated with Rococo-style carvings and colourful frescoes. Step inside to marvel at the painted ceiling and the gilded great organ, together with the rosary altar crafted by the Zürn brothers.

Getting around Radolfzell
Radolfzell is around 20 minutes’ drive from Konstanz and 15 minutes from Konstanz Airport and around an hour from Friedrichshafen Airport, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe. Regular trains connect to the Radolfzell railway station and buses travel throughout the town.
