Hinterzarten is a postcard-worthy resort set in the heart of the Black Forest. The town shot to fame in the 1920s when an enormous ski jump was built on the side of the mountain. Today the iconic ski jump complex is a training ground for Olympic athletes. You can learn about the legacy of the sport at the Black Forest Ski Museum, which is housed in an adorable timber-framed building and features exhibits on famous ski jumpers.
Summer sunshine transforms Hinterzarten into an outdoor playground for hiking, cycling and mountain biking. Some trails wind through alpine pastures and others take you through the Black Forest. The family-friendly Hinterzarten Adventure Trail is dotted with carved wooden sculptures. In winter, you can explore more than 100 kilometres of cross-country ski trails, including a popular route from Hinterzarten to Lake Titisee.
Schwartzwalder Museum introduces you to local history, culture and folklore. It’s packed with unique artefacts, including German cuckoo clocks, colourful glassware, antique farming tools and period costumes.
