Set at the foot of an extinct volcano, Nimbin is an enclave for free spirits and nature lovers. The village is nestled in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales and is surrounded by lush, UNESCO-protected rainforest.
Stroll around the town centre to admire colourful murals and street art decorating the facades of historic buildings. The Nimbin Artists Gallery showcases works by local artists, while the Nimbin Craft Gallery is filled with jewellery, ceramics, soy candles and other handmade wares.
Nimbin is a great base for exploring the magnificent Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. The Protesters Falls Track in Nightcap National Park leads to a cascading waterfall. In Wollumbin National Park, trails wind through the rainforest and offer a chance to spot lyrebirds and other native species. Stop for lunch at the serene Korrumbyn picnic area and take a dip in the creek.
