Baldersteinen towers eight metres high and was erected by Vikings in 500 AD. It’s one of several standing stones in the area and is named after a Norse god. The vertical stone is set in a grassy field and commands spectacular views over the fjord.
Getting around Leikanger
Leikanger is compact and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars are the best way to visit the village and explore the Sognefjorden region at your own pace. The village is a 3.5-hour drive from Bergen and 5.5 hours from Oslo. Sogndal Airport is a 40-minute drive away.
