Olden is a waterfront village surrounded by rugged mountains and sparkling glaciers. Hiking, kayaking and mountain biking are just some of the outdoor adventures on offer in Olden, which has earned a reputation as one of Norway’s top adventure sports destinations.
Tystigbreen Glacier occupies an enormous 21-square-kilometre footprint and is best explored with a guide. After clipping into safety ropes and harnesses, you’ll begin your ascent up the glacier. The views are spectacular and stretch all the way to snow-capped Mt. Lodalskaapa and Oppstrynsvatnet Lake. You’ll also get glimpses of the mighty Jostedal Glacier, one of the largest in Europe.
Kayaking tours are a great way to explore Nordfjord, one of the most picturesque fjords in Norway. Once patrolled by Vikings, today the fjord is dotted with colourful kayaks. As you paddle along the fjord, you’ll pass by tumbling waterfalls and rolling farmland.
In the village centre, Old Olden Church dates back to the 1700s and features a picturesque white wooden façade. Walk around the grass-covered graveyard and step inside to admire centuries-old religious paintings.
