The picturesque fishing village of Kalvag will charm you with its colourful buildings and rich seafaring heritage. Many of the former wharf warehouses have been reimagined as cosy hotels and shops. Others house restaurants that serve some of the best seafood in Norway. Save your appetite for herring and mackerel hauled in from the North Sea.
Kalvag is a great base for exploring Vestland county. Easy day trips include postcard-perfect Grotlesanden Beach with its sugar-white sand and turquoise water. You can also visit the ancient rock carvings at Vingen and old trading posts such as Smorhavn and Rugsund.
Boat cruises take you out into the harbour and showcase the wild and rugged coastal scenery. Watch for otters splashing in the water and sea eagles soaring overhead. Fishing trips offer a chance to reel in your own catch of the day. In winter, Kalvag is a popular storm-watching destination.
