Fjaerland is a postcard-perfect village set on the tip of a glacier-carved fjord and surrounded by mountains. The village is an ideal base for outdoor adventures, with hiking, cycling and kayaking just some of the activities on offer. Scenic cruises are a relaxing way to enjoy the lake and admire the dramatic scenery.
Guided glacier walks depart from Fjaerland and get you up close with the shimmering sheets of ice. You can choose to explore Bøyabreen or Supphellebreen, both branches of the enormous Jostedalsbreen Glacier. The engaging Norwegian Glacier Museum features exhibits on the glacier, which is one of the largest in Europe. Heavy winter snowfall transforms Fjaerland into a popular downhill and cross-country ski destination.
Fjaerland is passionate about books and operates 10 second-hand bookshops, despite being home to just a few hundred residents. Many are housed in historic buildings, including a former post office, bank and horse stable. In the village centre, you’ll be charmed by traditional wooden hotels and taverns.
