King Khalid International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia and its most populous city. The airport provides flights to a wide range of destinations all over the globe including London, Hong Kong and Dubai as well as destinations in the United States. The airport has five passenger terminals.
At the airport, there is much to do for visitors as it boasts a wide array of shops, restaurants and other amenities. Those looking to grab a bite to eat or relax with a drink can choose one of many restaurants and cafes in the airport including Starbucks and Karam Express, while the extensive selection of shops on-site includes duty-free shopping and a travel store for essentials. There are also many luxurious airport lounges open to travellers at the airport for those looking to enjoy their stay in style.
The airport is soon to be linked to the Riyadh metro network, although currently most visitors to the city utilise licensed airport taxis which can be found just outside the airport. There are also a number of rental car companies operating at the airport for those who wish to have their own vehicle during their stay. Travellers should also be advised that many of Riyadh’s hotels are known to offer a shuttle service to and from the airport, so it is worth checking with the hotel before flying in. Getting around Riyadh is relatively easy as taxis are so readily available.
King Khalid International Airport is Saudi Arabia’s second busiest airport handling over 22 million passengers each year. The airport is currently served by over 40 airlines which provide flights all around the world. Despite its importance to the country, King Khalid International Airport is relatively new having commenced operations in 1983, replacing the smaller Riyadh Airport.
