Things to do in Wauchope
For a glimpse at Wauchope's logging heritage, visit Timbertown, an educational theme park featuring a recreated colonial village, working goldfield and life-size steam train. It has been attracting visitors since 1976 and offers a unique glimpse at life as an early Australian pioneer.
For nature lovers, Wauchope is a gateway to the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Willi Willi National Park is a great place to discover the area’s ancient rainforests, with family-friendly experiences like the Hastings Forest Way driving route and the 30-minute Botanic Walk.
Towering above Burrawan State Forest, Old Bottlebutt is an ancient red bloodwood tree. It has a massive girth of over 16 metres and is estimated to be over 200 years old. It's the main attraction along the park's scenic 600-metre loop walking track, which begins at the Burrawan picnic area.
Just a short drive from the Wauchope town centre, Mount Boss State Forest is a firm favourite with locals. You can cool off in the waterhole, reel in catfish or enjoy a leisurely lunch in the tree-shaded Bluff Picnic Area.
Getting around Wauchope
Wauchope is a 20-minute drive from Port Macquarie and around 2.5 hours from Newcastle. While you can walk to most attractions, you'll need a car to explore the Greater Port Macquarie region. Port Macquarie is the closest airport, with daily flights from Sydney and Brisbane.
