Surrounded by the alpine landscapes of Kosciuszko National Park, Smiggin Holes is one of four villages within the sprawling Perisher Ski Resort. It’s renowned as one of the Australian snowfields’ best beginner-friendly ski destinations, with its snow-bowl shape sheltering it from harsh weather conditions.
Things to do in Smiggin Holes
Taking your first steps on the snow? Join one of the group lessons run by the experienced ski and snowboard instructors at the Perisher Ski School. There’s a Discovery Kids Program for those travelling with young ones, as well as dedicated teen and adult beginner classes.
Hit the toboggan-style slopes of Tube Town or one of the seven terrain parks scattered throughout Perisher. There are 48 lifts that can access the resort’s 12 square kilometres of snow terrain, with a mixture of intermediate and advanced runs for experienced skiers and snowboarders.
Grab a quick snack on the go at the Hot Spot Kiosk or opt for a cosy sit-down meal at Smiggins Bistro. A full-line of rental gear is available at Perisher Snowsports Hire, while snow-inspired souvenirs can be bought at Mountain Air Gifts.
Smiggin Holes makes a great base for exploring the hiking and mountain biking trails of Kosciuszko National Park, which encompasses spectacular alpine scenery. Tackle the challenging ascent to Australia’s highest peak to enjoy sweeping views of the Victorian High Country or go mountain biking along the legendary Cascades Hut Trail from Dead Horse Gap.
Getting around Smiggin Holes
Smiggin Holes is 30 minutes’ drive from Jindabyne and one hour from Snowy Mountains Airport. You can leave your car at Bullocks Flat and jump aboard the Swiss-designed Skitube railway to Perisher’s main station, where a free shuttle bus departs to Smiggin Holes.
