Things to do in Mulwala
The heart of the town is Lake Mulwala, which has walking tracks, playgrounds and swimming pools scattered around its foreshore, with open expanses perfect for a picnic or barbeque. Take a cruise on the lake and see the variety of birdlife that nest in the flooded red gum trees or do some fishing at one of Australia’s best spots for Murray cod.
Water sports are popular on the lake, where you can try your hand at water skiing, wakeboarding or tube rides with the Mulwala Water Ski Club. Play a few holes on the superbly landscaped Black Bull Golf Course on the shores of the lake or at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club, which also has tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a heated swimming pool.
Mulwala Pioneer Museum has a comprehensive exhibit on Australia’s pioneering years, with vintage cars and early aviation equipment, an old dental surgery and a blacksmith’s shop. More history is on display at Byramine Homestead, built by famous explorer Hamilton Hume in 1842, which now has a brewery on site where you can taste their home-brewed ales and stouts.
