Things to do in Keelung City
Keelung's Miaokou Night Market is renowned throughout the country for its wide selection of local cuisine. Tickle your taste buds with some peanut flavoured ice or enjoy some retail therapy and shop around amongst its vast offerings of textiles, toys and electronics. One of the city’s most iconic religious sites, the Dianji Temple makes for a complimentary attraction nearby.
If you want to immerse yourself in history, there are plenty of ancient forts to explore. Gongzih Liao Fort is located north-east of Keelung City and serves as a well-maintained remnant of the Qing Dynasty, in addition to housing a garrison from World War II.
Three forts in the western region of Keelung offer important reminders of the Opium and Sino-French Wars dating back to the 1880s. These structures were likely renovated during the Japanese colonial period, making for great opportunities to photograph.
If you want some fresh air outside of the city, meander down the Waimu Shan seashore and go for a swim if the water is right. Lovers Lake is another great escape from the urban scene, offering plenty of natural scenery, accessible by walking paths and observation platforms.

Keelung City is located 23 kilometres north-east of Taipei and is easily accessible by train and bus. Once in Keelung City, taxis and mini buses will transport you throughout the various districts.
