Jotunheimen National Park is home to some of the tallest peaks in Norway. Snow-capped mountains, cobalt-blue lakes and flower-filled meadows make the park a prime territory for hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and skiing.
At almost 2,500 metres above sea level, Galdhøpiggen is one of the tallest mountains in Norway. Guided tours are the safest way to hike up Galdhøpiggen, with the trail featuring a thrilling glacier crossing involving ropes and harnesses.
In winter and spring, Jotunheimen National Park transforms into a snow-dusted playground. Speed down exhilarating downhill slopes or explore family-friendly snowshoeing trails. After a long day on the slopes, warm up with a glass of aquavit, a Scandinavian spirit flavoured with spices.
From luxury hotels to rustic campsites, Jotunheimen National Park offers accommodation for every budget. If you don’t want to stay in the park, the nearby town of Lom is an excellent base. The magnificent Sognefjellet Mountain Road meanders through the park and treats you to some of the most spectacular scenery in Norway.
Getting there
Jotunheimen National Park is located in Eastern Norway, a 4.5-hour drive from Oslo and 5.5 hours from Bergen. Rental cars are the easiest and most flexible way to explore Jotunheimen National Park at your own pace.
